Mark Coffey is the son of Bernella Taylor and Johnny Coffey. He
was raised in a single parent home, and was saved and baptized at Nellie
Head Baptist in Ringgold, Georgia at the age of five.
In the first three months, while Mark was in Peru, South America on
a mission’s trip, God really dealt with his heart. Saturday, June
11, Mike Kennedy was preaching a message titled “How to Enjoy God” in Bolognesi
Baptist Church where Andrés Ramos is the pastor. That night
Mark surrendered his life to serve God in full time ministry and on June
the 14, 1997, at the age of 18, God called him to preach during a revival
at the Hunter Baptist Church in Arequipa, Peru. Thanks to a lot of living
examples from the Peruvian Bible students, Mark was ready to do exactly
what God had led him to do.
In March of 1995, Mark went on a five-month short-term mission's trip
to Arequipa, Peru. During the five months he worked as an English
teacher in the Hunter Baptist Christian School. In August, after
returning to the States, he started working at his home church, Whitfield
Baptist. While at Whitfield, he was the Children’s Pastor and also
an Assistant Youth Leader. At Whitfield God strengthened his
burden to work with the Latin Nation. In July of 1997, Mark returned
to Peru to learn the language, were he is studying at this time, in order
to work with the Latin people. While in Peru, he is enrolled in language
school and is also working in Life Baptist Church, which was started on
March 19, 1998.
Mark is presently working for his Bachelors degree through Macedonia
Baptist College.
Mark plans, after finishing language school, to return to Whitfield
Baptist Church and start a Spanish ministry. There are approximately
30,000 to 40,000 Latin’s in Dalton, Georgia and there is only one Independent
Baptist Church. He desires to start a strong Spanish ministry by
training the Latin to reach his on people with the gospel of Christ.
